Dear parents,

Listen to the experts.

Your doctor is an expert in the medical field. Listen to him or her.

But know that you are an expert on your child. Listen to your instinct too.

Your priest is an expert on sin and redemption. Listen to him.

But know that the Holy Spirit will give you the graces to see the state of your own soul too. Listen to Him above all else.

Your doctor is not a deity. He or she does not merit obeisance or blind obedience. Good doctors knows this and enlist you and your expertise.

Your priest is not an expert on medicine and does not merit blind obedience on any medical procedure. Certainly, consult a good and holy priest regarding the moral implications of these things, but know that they too are fallible men, and most are not doctors.

You, on the other hand, were given something special. If you were married in the Church, you received sacramental graces that will aid you in discharging your duties as a wife and mother (or husband and father).

Doctors and priests are a gift from God, surely. Their knowledge, properly shared and carefully discerned, will benefit your family.

But the experts are not a replacement for Him, nor are they a replacement for you.

You were MADE to care for your spouse and children. It is your purpose on earth and God will bless it if you ask.

Your work is HOLY work, and it is given only to you and your spouse.

You, through mortification and sanctification, will achieve heaven through this vocation. 🤯

You are the experts on your family.
